Aromatherapy is derived from two words: aroma which means smell and therapy which stands for healing. It is said to be the ancient science of healing, relaxing and energizing by the use of plants and their parts. The roots, barks, flowers, fruits, seeds and nuts play a crucial role in this science. It is one of the more popular branches of alternative medicines.
The basic principle behind aromatherapy message is that human nostrils are attached to the limbic system of the brain. This controls emotions and influences the nervous system and hormones. When essential oils are applied on body, these oil molecules are transported to the limbic system via inhalation. This improves the heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion and immune system.
