CAUSES OF FOOD ADDICTION
Food Addiction is said to be associated with the brain chemistry. People suffering from the food cravings are said to have neurochemical and hormonal imbalances triggering these cravings. Few of the psychological and physical causes of food cravings are:
Dieting. While avoiding a specific food from the diet, the desire to eat that food gradually increases, and when this desire reaches its peak, then one may end up binging on that food.
Eating out of habit. Some cravings exist because of habit. For instance, if your family ate dessert every night after dinner during your childhood . Now, if dessert does not appear every night after dinner, you tend to crave something sweet.
Psychological association. The food cravings tend to grow in the head. Whenever, you pass a bakery on your way home, you may elicit a crave for donuts, or a billboard ad for McDonald’s then you may trigger a craving for French fries. Certain activities are also linked to cravings. Watching movies, is associated with eating popcorn and candy, so simply the mention of a movie can drum up a craving for junk food.
Comfort foods. Certain foods when are connected with emotions, they turn into food carvings. If one continuously consumes chocolate or ice cream every time, when feeling stressed out or upset, then one begins to associate the taste of chocolate ice cream with feeling better.
